Sedation Dentistry

Feeling anxious when visiting the dentist is a normal reaction. Adults and children alike often feel twinges of apprehension about dental treatments. This is especially true if there is a dental procedure involved. At Blue Sky Dental Group, we provide a warm, comforting atmosphere to help our patients relax. As part of our commitment to providing an exceptional dental experience, we offer pillows and blankets. These special amenities have been shown to aid in relaxation while undergoing dental procedures. Our gentle chairside manner also helps patients feel calm and relaxed.

Severe dental anxiety can keep a patient from seeking dental care. It can put you at a higher risk for dental problems such as infected teeth and gum disease. Our staff at Blue Sky Dental Group understands the issues associated with such anxiety. We patiently work with you to overcome your anxiety so you can have a relaxed, enjoyable experience. Sedation options help those with intense anxiety, relax and feel calm.

Oral Conscious Sedation

With just a little pill you can feel relaxed and carefree while undergoing your dental procedure. Taken a little while before the procedure begins, oral conscious sedation provides a gentle, comfortable feeling of relaxation. You remain awake; however, your anxiety melts away. This type of sedation takes a while to wear off, so we ask that you make arrangements to have someone take you home after your appointment. It is inadvisable to drive or operate machinery after oral conscious sedation, since you may still feel drowsy or groggy for a while after your dental procedure is finished.

Nitrous Oxide

This is one of the oldest and most popular methods of sedation. Nitrous oxide has been used as sedation for over a century. When your procedure is about to begin, you will breathe in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. Levels are closely monitored. The gas will put you into a very relaxed state of mind. As with oral conscious sedation, you remain awake; however, it is not unusual to doze off under its influence. After the procedure is completed, your system will be flushed with oxygen. Recovery only takes minutes with this type of sedation. It is also the method of choice for children.

There is no reason to let dental anxiety keep you from attaining your optimum oral health. With the caring, compassionate dental team at Blue Sky Dental group, you are in the best hands for excellent dental care.
