What are Orthodontics?

Most people don’t have perfectly straight teeth. However, when your smile is getting in the way of properly caring for it or feeling confident in your appearance, it might be time to consider orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic treatment aims to realign and correct issues with crowding and misalignment. Each patient’s care will vary depending on their needs and unique smile goals.

Why would Orthodontics be needed?

When your teeth are crowded, crooked, misaligned or unevenly spaced, it can be difficult to keep them clean properly. You might not be able to floss around certain teeth, and this increases your chances of developing decay and gum disease. Likewise, you might be feeling badly about your appearance and are ready for a change. Orthodontic treatment can be beneficial for patients of all ages, even adults.

Who is a candidate for Orthodontic treatment?

There is absolutely no age limit when it comes to receiving quality care. In fact, more adults are beginning to come into the office to begin their orthodontic journey. We recommend that parents bring their children in for their first orthodontic consultation around the time the child is about seven years old. It’s never too late to take charge of your confidence and oral health with the help of orthodontics.

What happens during Orthodontic treatment?

The orthodontic process will begin with a complete consultation. We get to know you and your unique smile needs to create a personalized treatment plan just for you. The next step is to take x-rays and impressions, which will be helpful in providing you with the treatment that you need. Treatment can take anywhere from a few months to about two or three years depending on your needs. In order for orthodontic treatment to be effective, it is important that you make time to come into the office every few weeks for your orthodontic adjustments or to have new clear aligners made for you.
